Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 30, 2026

VoteHQ (votehq.org) is a nonpartisan civic resource operated by American Independent Media (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use VoteHQ, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using VoteHQ, you agree to this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service.

Information we collect

Information collected automatically

  • Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand how people use VoteHQ. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect information such as the pages you visit, how long you stay, the website that referred you, your browser and device type, and your approximate location based on your IP address. Google processes this information under the Google Privacy Policy.
  • Cloudflare. VoteHQ is hosted on Cloudflare. When you visit, Cloudflare processes technical information about your request, such as your IP address, browser type, and the page you requested, to deliver the site, protect it from abuse, and keep logs that we use to operate and troubleshoot the site. We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics to measure visits and page load times. It collects the page you visit, the website that referred you, your browser, operating system, and screen size, and it does not use cookies or track you across other websites. Cloudflare processes this information under the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

The BallotReady tool

The Voter Readiness Portal on our homepage is provided by BallotReady. Information you enter into it, such as your home address, goes to BallotReady and is governed by the BallotReady Privacy Policy. If BallotReady shares information about you with us, we handle it under this Privacy Policy.

How we use information

  • To understand how VoteHQ is used and to improve it.
  • To operate, secure, and troubleshoot the site.
  • To comply with the law and to protect our rights and the rights of others.

We do not use information about you to send you emails or text messages. If we start to contact you, we will update this Privacy Policy first.

How we share information

We may share information:

  • With service providers that help us run VoteHQ, such as Cloudflare and Google, under their terms.
  • With nonpartisan organizations that work to help people vote.
  • When the law requires it, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of others.
  • As part of a merger, acquisition, or transfer of the organization that operates VoteHQ.
  • In aggregate or de-identified form that does not identify you.

Cookies and your choices

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. To stop Google Analytics from collecting information about your visits, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. VoteHQ does not currently respond to “Do Not Track” browser signals.

Data retention

We keep information that you gave us in the voting plan form that VoteHQ used to have until you ask us to delete it or until we no longer need it. Google and Cloudflare keep the information they collect under their own retention policies.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you, correct, or delete the information we have about you. Send your request to privacy@votehq.org. We may need to confirm your identity before we act on your request.

Security

We use reasonable measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

VoteHQ is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child under 13 has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top of this page. If you continue to use VoteHQ after a change, you accept the updated policy.
